Mise en scené

The Mise en scené is everything in the frame. There are 5 aspects to a Mise en scené in Media, these are;

-Setting & Props; The setting in a scene can manipulate an audience by building certain expectations and then taking a different turn. The props in a scene can indicate a move which is about to occur or set a mood in a scene.
-Costume hair & make-up; These can all indicate what a person is like.
-Facial expressions & body language; Facial expressions on a person can indicate how a character feels in themselves or how they feel towards another character. It can also reflect on characters relationships.
-Lighting & colour; Colour carriers certain connotations in which can add meaning to a scene, (i.e. red represents romance or danger). Both can give a scene a particular look, feel or mood; they can also be used to create a dramatic effect. The lighting in a scene can highlight the importance or characters or objects in a frame. It can also make characters look mysterious by shading a section of their face or body. The lighting can reflect on a characters state or hidden emotions. There are two types of lighting; low key and high key. Low key lighting is created by using only the key and back lights, it produces sharp contrast between light and dark areas. It can also form seep distinct shadows or silhouettes. High key lighting uses more filter lights and they lighting is natural and more realistic to our eyes. It produces brightly lit sets or a sunny day.
-Positioning of characters or objects within the frame; The positioning in a frame can draw our attention to an important character or object. A film maker can use positioning to indicate relationships between people, as well as creating the mood between certain characters.

Ideas For My Music Magazine

Here are some examples of previous Music Magazine covers as well as images of Music bands. I have collected these together to help me with ideas for the front image of my music magazine.

College Magazine Evaluation

My magazine used a Masthead at the top of the Magazine to attract the viewer. I used a black and white image for my magazine which I took in college. I then used red writing on the magazine cover to make it stand out from the image. I have priced my magazine at £1 and used a barcode under the masthead on the right. At the bottom of my magazine I have used white writing against black to highlight the words. I have not put too much writing on my magazine cover as I didn't want it to be to complicated to read with the contrast in colors. The audience for this magazine is aimed at college students for both sex.

The contents page also uses a black, white and red color scheme. The contents page uses red for the page numbers as I think this makes them stand out. I have also used two pictures of students in the College on the contents page.

Stereotyping in Misfits

Misfits is a typical stereotypical teen drama that relates with everyday life teenagers go through including drugs, sex and relationships. The cast is a mixture of people today's society would expect to see doing community service.Nathan has a cocky nature and comes across as always causing mischief, Kelly is a typical chav who wears lots of make-up and has bad language, Alisha is a well known slag; we can tell this from the way she acts and dresses, Curtis doesn't come across as a bad guy, however his race could be a stereotypical reason, Simon comes across very innocent, however he is seen as a freak. All these reasons are typical examples of stereotyping, however these are the sort of reasons today's society frown upon and have been forced to believe are reasons why someone should be an outcast.
